Mission Statement

As a student in the Frisco ISD Independent Study and Mentorship (ISM) Program, I wish to pursue the field of neurosurgery under the guidance of a mentor in order to further equip me with vocational skills and unique experiences for college and the work force. Throughout this course, I wish to study with drive, curiosity, integrity, and a work ethic that sets a precedent to my peers, while standing out as an individual who strives for excellence.

About ISM

The Independent Study and Mentorship (ISM) program is a challenging, yet unbelievably rewarding program offered by the Frisco Independent School District (FISD), in which exceptionally driven and focused high school juniors and seniors are able to explore a chosen field of study. The competition to be accepted into the class is very rigorous and requires a thorough interview and application process. During the first semester, students research their chosen field in great depth, learn common terminology and behind-the-scenes efforts of the particular occupation, and build their professionalism and interpersonal skills for the professional world. In the second semester, students choose a mentor they will shadow for the rest of the school year. Through this, they gain a deeper knowledge and first hand experience of their topic and develop original ideas for production, which they will proceed to carry out as a final product for presentations in the spring.
