Switching to the topic of videography, I began this research assessment without a particular start. Therefore, I gravitated towards a subject in which I wished to expand my knowledge upon: lenses. I had a vague understanding of how lenses work and the different types – telephoto, zoom, macro, etc – however, as lenses are one of the most essential aspects of photography and filmography, I found it imperative to solidify my knowledge regarding this.
After reading and annotating this article, I have been introduced to many different lenses, but can definitely not be able to recall each in particular. Diving into such a deep subject, I managed to float in the shallow portion – only with the help of excessive treading. However, I was able to retain some information. Reading this article through a videography and film perspective, I was able to identify certain lenses that are more suited and less suited for video-making purpose – suiting lenses including standard zoom, telephoto zoom, and macro lenses. Being able to identify these lenses has prepared me with more possible interview inquiries that I could ask professionals of a related field. This will not only set me apart from other high school seniors interested in filmography and videography, but it will also spark more specific and genuine conversations with business professionals, being exposed to more valuable information and experiences. In addition to different types of lenses, this article delineated key aspects of each lens that distinguishes it from the other. These certain qualities include focal length, aperture, and shutter speed. This has helped me understand which advantages and disadvantages each camera lens offer, in order to help me with investing in more lenses in the future. This also explicated which benefits and sacrifices I must consider with each lens before purchase, as there does not exist a “perfect lens’.
The most important thing that this article has revealed to me is validation. Initially, I had been quite reluctant to switch topics to film and videography, but this research assessment was a clear sign of actual enjoyment. As opposed to the past several research assessments, I had finally appreciated and enjoyed the entire process of researching this topic, pursuing more knowledge past this one article as well. I looked forward to the many more research assessments and informational interviews that await.
